The year 2026 is well underway, and most of us will be back to full capacity within the week, if we aren't there already. A new year often brings the expectation that life will be better and more fulfilling than the year before. For others, however, the new year may hold a sense of dread: What if things don’t change? What if I face the same challenges as last year?
The reality is that if we are not intentional about how we live, nothing will truly change. Below are three thoughts to consider, along with coaching questions to help you navigate the year ahead.
1. Work Backwards to Grow in 2026
If you could fast-forward to December 2026, what areas of growth would you be celebrating? Identifying these milestones provides vital clues about what you should work toward today. Having a clear goal helps you steer your time and capacity more effectively.
This applies to our walk with God as well. If you were to look back on this year through His eyes, what would Jesus consider to be the "highlights" of your 2026?
2. Define the Intentional Habits That Will Guide You
Our lives are the products of our habits. As you consider the areas where you want to grow, ask yourself: Which two habits are the most important to focus on this year?
Remember, consistency is the key to everything important in life. Look at your daily responsibilities and ask: How can I foster these habits within the existing demands of my life? In a demanding world, we must be creative to stay consistent.
3. Be Intentional about Your Approach to Challenges
Challenges are a constant part of life, and 2026 will be no different. Knowing this, how can you prepare yourself to be more resilient?
We see a powerful example of this in the Bible. Jesus told His disciples on numerous occasions that they would face persecution. Because they were mentally and spiritually prepared, they eventually reached a point where they regarded that persecution as an honour. They understood that this life is temporary and the eternal holds far more value. How can you prepare your heart to remain hopeful, regardless of the challenges you face?
Final Thoughts: These are just a few reflections to help you navigate the start of the year. May you experience an increase of God’s presence in every area of your life in 2026.
