What is life coaching?A life coach is someone that walks with you, assisting you in the process of discovery and self-awareness. The coach's role is to guide the process of discovery by using powerful questions that will draw on your potential, opportunities and insights. These questions will lead the coachee to determine outcomes and actions steps towards a certain goal or dream. Coaching is a purposeful conversation that will lead the coachee towards the desired goal. The coach is not there to advise or give direction. The coach is there to assist in bringing clarity, direction and decisiveness from within the coachee. Life coaching is focused on the ultimate outcome, while generating small steps (wins!) towards that desired outcome.

What is the difference between coaching and counselling?Life coaches focus on the desired outcomes of the coachee, by assisting the coachee in a careful process of reflection. This process enables the coachee to generate goals and actions steps towards the desired outcome. Life coaching focuses on moving forward from your current reality. Counselling focuses on brining healing to past experiences that hinder the present and future. Emotional resolutions are sought for past experiences through the counselling process that will bring 'healing' to the present. It would be helpful to keep in mind that a lot of coaching and counselling overlap and while the aprroach is different some of the method are similar.

The coaching processCoaching is focused on the client's desired outcome. The first step is to determine what the coachee wants, in order to set as a desired outcome. That is established by powerful questions posed the by coach. It is important to note that the coach cannot advise the coachee on an outcome, because the coachee takes full ownership of the outcomes and steps to fulfill those outcomes. Some like to say, the coach owns the process and the coachee owns the content. Once an outcome is agreed upon, steps may inclucde a process of reflection bringing self awareness, followed by generating actions steps.

How many sessions life coaching do I need? The amount of sessions are completely determined by the coachee. Once the desired outcomes are reached the coaching process is completed. A typical coaching journey however, may be between 2-6 sessions.
